Ceilidh Band

Ceilidh band formation.  Roddy over the years has played with many talented musicians in a variety of circumstances.  In 2005 the Reel Time Ceilidh Band was formed, by bringing together the very best of the musicians he has met along the way.  Mixing Roddys unique contemporary bagpipe playing style, along with a solid back end of musical performers led to an exciting development in rocking funky ceilidh band music. Fusing bagpipes, keyboards, electric guitar, fiddle and drums with ceilidh dance calling for the uninitiated, gives lively entertainment for any event.

The ceilidh band have played at weddings, corporate and VIP events. The PIXAR Brave press launch, Olympic Games 2012 events in London (for Pele and Visit Scotland), George Square New Year.  Visit Scotland: Scotland Means Business conference gala night alongside many wedding ceilidhs and events.

2014 was a high profile year for Sport in Scotland – and the Reel Time band played at the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games events, along with several other high profile events outside of the sporting calendar. In 2015 the ceilidh band were entertaining the M&I forum guests at their gala dinner, along with recording their second studio album. 2016 saw them do some work promoting ceilidh dancing in India for Visit Scotland.  You can keep up with all their up to date news at their new ceilidh website.

2019 sees the band as busy as ever. Performing ceilidhs in Edinburgh, Glasgow and all over Scotland. Recent highlights include 1300 delegates dancing in Merchant Square at a Conference ceilidh, July 2019 and the release of the bands new studio Album.

Ceilidh and Scottish performance bands

As Roddy and the band received invitations to play to bigger audiences and to offer clients a mix of musical styles (pop, rock, Scottish song) The Reel Time Scraggly Cats were formed. Playing as a 5,6 or 7 piece band with the addition of female vocals, bass (double and electric) and fiddle.

The Scraggly Cats played Visit Britain’s largest trade event at Wembley stadium spring 2013 and Arran Whisky and Folk Festival Summer 13, along with graduation balls, black tie gala evenings and numerous weddings.

As clients are looking for bigger and better things, Roddy has been working with a horn section (sax, trumpet and trombone) and his dance troupe putting on high energy Scottish performances for a range of Scottish corporate brands, government organisations and well-heeled private individuals.
