Bagpiper hire Fife.

Fife-based bagpiper Greig Canning is available to hire for weddings and events locally, in Fife, and all over Scotland.

About Greig

Greig started to learn the bagpipes at age 10 from Tom Brown at the nearby Lochgelly High School. Inspired by family members who had close links to pipe bands, Greig started to play with the school pipe band and enjoyed many major championship wins.

In his pipe band career, Greig has played with Dysart and Dundonald, Manawatu Scottish (New Zealand) and Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia. In 2011 he returned to lead Dysart as Pipe Major before joining the ranks of Inveraray and District in 2014. Inveraray has enjoyed lots of recent success, winning 10 major championships in recent seasons. The highlight for Greig was winning the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championship in 2017.

Greig is a regular prize winner around the highland games circuit in Scotland and is a regular competitor and recent prize winner in the Silver Medal contests at Oban and Inverness. He has received solo tuition from Walter Drysdale, Colin MacLellan and Tom Speirs.

Greig is the bagpipe instructor for West Lothian Council. He has attained the level 6 Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board certificate and has also been featured on BBC Radio Scotland’s piping programme “Pipeline“.  As well as Scottish music, Greig frequently travels to Brittany to compete with the band ‘Kevrenn Alre’ in the Bagadou championships, playing the bagpipes in a Breton music style.

His favourite tune changes all the time, but he is currently playing a lot of compositions by James Duncan MacKenzie. The album Sromos is first class!

Greig plays a set of hand-engraved sterling silver David Naill DN5h bagpipes, personalised with Acanthus engraving.

One of Greig’s favourite gig memories was to play for Kenny Logan on the popular TV Show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
